Scalby Manor was built in 1885 and originally called Wyndyate, it was built for Mr. Edwin Brough who lived there until 1910 when it was sold on. Mr. Brough bread hounds, which were once taken to London to help in tracking down Jack The Ripper. From 1910-1939 it was owned and used as a private house, until it it was sold to Scarborough Council who turned into a Guest House, and then in 1957 a family who are still living locally renamed it as a Hotel until 1987, from 1987-1992 Thanks to Sue B we have information on who the owners were, sadly then it became the responsibility of the local council and was derelict and run down until Whitbread's the present owners bought it in 1995.

We were asked to come here as there have been many many reports of Ghost sightings within the building and outside, our problem was that nearly every sighting throughout its history have appeared in the local paper over the years, our aim was to see if we could confirm any of these sightings.

TOP FLOOR: a little girl with blonde hair and in red shoes or boots,
FIRST FLOOR: a lady in white who sits at a dressing table grooming her hair,
BAR AREA: a little boy seen stood at the entrance, and lady who was a maid or cleaner, (neither have appeared in the paper nor were we told of them)
CELLAR: a man in a white shirt, A lady in white. (The latter never appeared in any paper nor were we told of her)
OUTSIDE: twice seen a coach and horses coming up the drive.

The Investigation was a joint effort between Abbey Ghost Hunters and UFO Paranormal. Present from AGH were Angie, Mark, Wayne, Charlotte, Tracey From UFO para were Russ, Win and Anne we were also joined by AGH Gold Members Andy, Jackie C and Lee.

11.00pm everyone had arrived and we were just waiting for all the punters to leave.

11.45pm Win got two c.c.t.v's ready on the corridor on the top floor, whilst everyone else went to the cellar were we set our focus on three rooms and a corridor, One room was a small storage room, one was a barrel room and the other the bottle room which we will now call the children's area for reasons you will see. We first entered the small room and spent 10 minutes to give everyone a feel of the room temp' was 16.9°c, at 11.55pm we went to the children's room, ( before the invest Angie had already told me this was a play area for children) Angie sensed a man present called John who was a stable hand he just stood and observed us, also there was a small boy present who gave no name, Wayne and Tracey both felt his presence also, we also heard some scratching noises which were able to account for, temp' varied for different parts of the room naturally and read 10.0°c and 13.0°c. We then entered the barrel room Angie senses a lady called Elizabeth 38yrs old and had brown hair she wore a white nightdress, she is the lady in white who is seen in the cellar and on the first floor at the dressing table. She seemed stressed and confused as she was looking for a child but couldn't find them. Angie also senses an object gets moved in this room a lot, Angie also felt that the stairs had been moved the landlords confirmed all the above. Battery drained on E.M.F. Temp 13.0°c batteries drained on stills camera.

00.05am we went back to the bar area, confirmations were given for the above information, picture was shown to us showing the original staircase and its position, Angie also gave the name Francessca who was a maid, the landlady said she had just that week been told of Francessca who was a maid.

00.45am Win and Russ went to the children's room in the cellar and the corridor to set up two more c.c.t.v's, whilst everyone else went to the top floor for a look around we used two Dictaphones on record and a handheld camcorder which after 5 minutes lost total sound (it never returned until 03.50 so we have lost all audible from the microphone, batteries and tapes have all been checked for faults and all work perfectly) maybe just a coincidence but it was exactly at the point were Angie senses a young girl stood very close ( at 03.50am when the sound returned Angie said the little girl who had followed us all night had just left us). The Dictaphones have been checked and they haven't lost any sound and nothing unusual appears on them. Battery on camcorder drained temp' 17.0°c

01.00am we tried Glass divination in the largest of the rooms, Angie , Tracey, Lee Andy and Jackie no response was gained so the same group tried table tilting again no response was made although there were feelings of being brushed against the legs and slight touches on faces, Char (Charlotte) heard a noise in the smallest room and thought she heard a tapping noise on stool that stood in the room we placed the slate board and chalk on it and secured the door shut. During the table tilting we heard a small voice which couldn't be made out but Wayne who was wearing a small eavesdropper listening device said the voice sounded like it said "go on" we moved to the middle sized bedroom and tried again, we got no response in here either despite this everyone felt like there was somebody stood in the corner of the room.

02.15am Mark, Russ and Tracey went to the rear of the building to have a look around at was once stables and the dog kennels.

02.50am we went back to the smallest room in the cellar Russ, Win and Anne remained in the dining room observing the c.c.t.v's. Whilst in this room Mark was stood at the door and smelled rose water pass him seconds later others thought they too could smell a rose smell after about 15 minutes Andy thought he had seen something move in the bottom corner Mark had also thought this. Camcorder battery drained temp' 15.0°c.

03.25am with all the lights off and in complete darkness we made our way to the children's room once again, nothing else happened in here and nothing was felt.

03.50am we decided to go back to the bar area to discuss with Russ Anne and Win as they had seen a possible Shadow appear on one of the c.c.t.v's upstairs they had also had one of the cameras move position. Mark went to the area to check that the cameras and tripods were stable and if there was any reason for it to move, none could be found. Andy and Lee had set up with a a camcorder in the smallest room in the cellar at the same time.

04.15am We headed back to the top floor to try a seance, Russ, Win, Anne and Wayne remained at the monitors observing the c.c.t.v's. Again we tried table tilting at the glass was Angie, Mark, Char, Tracey, Jackie and Andy Lee was on the camera, again we failed to get any response.

04.30am we moved back to the cellar small room and tried in here with the same set up as above, and again nothing happened other than two camcorder batteries totally drained within minutes.

04.45am we went back to the bar area and decided that nothing else could be done and wrapped up for the night

FINAL THOUGHT: we felt that we did sense some of the spirits in the building but there was a lack of any real connection with them, we did however throughout the night suffer from a lot of battery drain on the camcorders, stills camera and c.c.t.v's as well as the E.M.F meter,
