The Kings Arms public house in Blyth Northumberland. Once an Inn. Present from AGH were Angie, Mark, Tracey, Chris, Alan, Jazz, Mike and Andy. We were joined on the night by Landlords Dez and his Wife!

We arrived at 23.45hrs at the location, but started the investigation at midnight. For the first hour we split into two teams, team 1 Mark, Angie, Alan and Chris. Team 2 Jazz, Tracey, Mike and Andy. Team 1 went upstairs in the Landlords flat to look around whilst Team 2 stayed downstairs. The layout of the pub is simple the centre of the pub at the front comprises two bars that are back to back, one serves the main seating area and pool area which we will call Bar 1, main bar area and pool room throughout the report, the other bar serves the function area and the Karaoke area which we will call Bar 2, function room and Karaoke room throughout the report.

Midnight: TEAM 1 UPSTAIRS) As we passed through the Karaoke room to go upstairs Angie mentioned an Owen and said she would come back to that one later she also sensed a woman called Rose who stands in Bar 2, we went to the kitchen and as we entered Angie became aware of a lady being present called Beryl, she was a former cleaner / housekeeper and was dressed in a pinny and had rollers in her hair, probably best described as looking a bit like Hilda Ogden. This was a residual energy so nothing more could be done here. We went to the first bedroom and Angie sensed a former owner called John, he had three sons all born in this room and in a short space of time, two of his sons had enlisted into the Army during the first world war. Both had died in service. In the second bedroom Angie became aware of a woman called Mary who she believes was John’s wife. She had an heart attack, Alan entered the room he instantly said he felt as though someone had passed in here and held his hand up to his heart and indicated to myself he felt an heart attack. We went to the living room and Alan pictured a wake taking place but did not get anything else with that.
TEAM 1 CELLAR) At half twelve we went downstairs into the cellar Alan stood near the beer chute and said he got the name Samuel pop into his head as he said it Angie said she saw a quick glimpse of a man standing directly behind Alan. Angie felt someone had been held down here after committing a robbery in the town, he was held overnight before being taken away. Chris also said he felt as if he was being held here against his will and felt anxious. As they left the area Alan got two names he heard only the first part of the first name Jack and Rose he thought maybe he hadn’t heard it properly and that it may have been Jacqueline Rose. Angie said it probably was just Jack he heard and Rose as there was a Rose in Bar 2.
TEAM 1 MAIN BAR) We went into the main bar area as we looked around Angie had an image of a man sat in the corner who smoked a pipe and read his newspaper, she said although he was a quiet man he often supplied the owners with Game. As she moved around she sensed a little girl in a green pinafore dress and said she was called Sophie. Alan heard a cat meow and said it sounded like it was right by the fireplace, the Landlord said his dog often sniffs in that area like mad. Team 2 who were in the Function Room called to Mark as the EMF meter had completely drained. Before the investigation started Mark had set up the EMF meter for Team 2 but the battery drained within two minutes so he replaced it. Now it was drained again. Team 1 continued in the main bar area. As they stood Angie said another former owner called Jack was present and he was stood behind the Bar. As she went to look Chris felt someone brush against him and turned to see no one was there. Alan said I wonder if anyone had a problem with their eye as he got a pain in it. Angie and Chris had both complained of a pain in the eye when we first entered, the landlord commented a previous owner had a glass eye due to an accident (Also see team 2 on this). Angie went behind the bar and stood where she saw Jack and said it was very cold there, the landlady said she always gets a nasty ice cold breeze in the exact same spot. Chris joined Angie to see if he could find an explanation for it but it seemed to be isolated in the one spot. Angie was also aware someone would smell tobacco as she could.
Angie looked through to Team 2’s area and said she saw a shadow move along the wall, as she did team 2 where also aware of this. Tracey joined Team 1 as she developed a really bad Headache and needed to leave the function room. Mark rejoined Team 1 and stood behind the Bar (Bar 1) to see if he could make sense of the cold spot, it did not appear to be coming from anywhere and it was as if it was in an isolated spot! Mark held the thermometer and commented whilst his hand was getting colder and colder the temperature was rising! as he was stood there Angie gave a surname for Rose and said she was married to Edward who had had an heart attack he also had a beard and asked Jazz was he aware of him, at the same time Chris and Tracey were both getting chest pains and in the function room so were Andy and Jazz. At this point we all went into the Karaoke room at 1am.
Midnight: TEAM 2 FUNCTION ROOM) After team 1 had left the area Team 2 stood around to see if they could pick up on anything in the area. After only a few minutes Jazz was aware of a woman being stood behind Bar 2. He also picked up on man who gave Jazz the impression he had a beard and stood only a few inches smaller than himself. (Later it would become clear the lady was Rose and the man was Edward, see team 1 above). Tracey picked up on the name John a former landlord and felt he was around in this area, she became aware of a Womans presence behind the bar also and started to feel light headed. Andy also commented he thought someone was behind the bar but was not sure who or what. Mike and Andy then both saw a shadow move along the wall, where the Landlady herself has seen it several times. The team stayed in the area and nothing happened for a little while until Tracey became aware of a young boy called Toby who worked with horses, (again this would be to do with the pub once being an Inn). Shortly after when Team 1 entered the Main bar area Jazz sensed the male presence again the one with the beard and stood by Bar 2. Team 2 called Mark as the EMF drained. Tracey and Andy had started to complain of a pain in their eye (see Team 1 above, a former landlord had a glass eye). Angie looked through to Team 2s area and said she saw a shadow move along the wall, which Team 2 where aware of. Tracey got a sudden headache and left the room and went to Team 1s area, Mark also rejoined Team 1 and stood in bar 1. Angie gave a surname for Rose and said she was married to Edward who had had an heart attack he also had a beard and asked Jazz was he aware of him. Then Andy and Jazz started to get chest pains as did Tracey and Chris in the other room.

01:00hrs. KARAOKE ROOM) (Teams 1 and 2 together) The EMF which has a speaker in it playing white noise had started to make a strange sound as if the volume had been turned up really loud however there is no volume control on it. Mark who had heard both teams talking about pains in their eyes asked how many of the team had felt this. Alan, Angie, Tracey, Chris and Andy had all felt a pain in their right eye. Angie becomes aware of someone moving around us all and as she says it the Landlady says she felt someone walk right behind her. Then both Angie and Andy heard a child's voice but could not make out what was said, others heard some kind of noise but were not sure what it was. Jazz then says he can taste pipe smoke. Chris who was stood near to the fireplace said he felt very uneasy and felt as though something bad was about too happen! Mike commented ever since he entered the building he felt like someone was very close by the whole time. Angie started talking about someone who was stabbed in the leg, she felt the pub once had an outdoors (this was when some pubs had like a little shop where you could purchase products from, such as crisps and cigarettes) she said there was a hatch or opening of some kind in the wall.(The Landlord confirmed this for us, saying there was once). Angie continued, someone tried to rob the place and a lad that worked there called Billy tried to prevent the robbery which resulted in him being stabbed in the leg. Alan also sensed a young male called Joshua who passed by him very quickly and could not gain any more information on this. Mark decided to ask Team 2 to go into the cellar as they had not been there yet. Team 1 went outside for another look around and discuss the events so far.

01:15 TEAM 1 OUTSIDE) for discussion. We left our camera in the function room where Owen had been seen before by witnesses. Angie and Alan both said they could hear a Coach and Horses. (Dez told us the pub was once an Inn and where we were stood was where the old stables used to be).
TEAM 2 CELLAR) They entered the cellar. The team all started to feel anxious and commented as Team 1 had that it felt like someone was being held here for something. Jazz had gone to the corner where Alan had and our team witnessed a figure behind him. As Jazz took up this position he kept looking over his shoulder and Tracey thought she seen someone with him! After a few moments there are two bangs like something hitting metal. The team think it is something hitting the metal doors of the beer delivery chute. Jazz leaves the room to go and check outside passing the camera placed in the function room, he left the building passing team 1 and goes to the beer delivery chute and drops a stone on it to see if it is the same sound. The team in the cellar say yes. The camera in the function room picks up the conversation and the noise made by Jazz. Team 1 all hear the noise made by Jazz, but on inspecting the camera in the function room there is no recording of the sounds before Jazz does it and Team 1 point out they never heard the noise before Jazz replicates it. I can only assume the noise must have been caused by something in the cellar possibly against one of the barrels as their camera picks up all the noises. Mark decides to bring both team together and all go in the cellar to see if we can make out what it was. Mark went to the corner where a member from each team had experienced something, whilst there he looked over his shoulder as he felt someone was behind him. Chris thought he could see someone behind Mark also. Mike, Tracey and Angie went by the door and waited and Mike thought he saw a shadow move along the wall by the stairs. The others stayed further in the cellar awaiting to see if anymore noises were made. After a while we decided to leave as nothing was happening suddenly Alan felt a bang on the head by an unseen hand as he said this Mark saw a shadow by the stairs and Andy quickly went to see what was causing it, Then Angie complained of being hit in the arm. We left the area at 01:45hrs. On leaving the cellar we tried to replicate the shadow we had seen and discovered it could only be made by standing in one place and no one had been there on each occasion plus someone was always in a position to see that spot so we know it was not a natural cause.

01:45hrs BREAK.

02:15hrs. We went to the POOL ROOM AREA to try some table tipping, Angie, Alan, Andy and Mike all sat at the table Chris and Tracey sat to the right side of Angie observing whilst Mark and Jazz where on Cameras. After only a very short time Angie was aware of someone passing behind her Chris felt the breeze too and the EMF raised to 70 miligauss. Just after this all at the table reported feeling it shake a little. Seconds later the room appeared to warm up but there was no change in the temperature readings. The team continued to attempt table tipping when Andy started to complain of chest pains and looked to be struggling for breath, but it soon passed.
The team decided to try Glass divination. They done the usual of inviting spirit to communicate with them through the glass, by asking questions that required a yes or no. The spirit is to move the glass as a YES or leave the glass still as a sign for NO.

  4. Are you Emily / yes (just then Angie spotted a man stood behind Andy, Andy felt a cold breeze pass by him and Tracey, Mark and Jazz saw an outline of a figure walking by. Angie believed it to be Owen. At this point Emily backed off and Owen started to work with the team).

  7. Do you see lots of people / yes
  8. Is it really Owen moving the glass / yes
  9. Did you once live here / yes
  10. Move the glass to where you are / yes (the glass moved towards Alan)
  11. Alan asked was that you who touched me earlier / no
  12. Was you happy here / yes
  13. Did you have good times / yes
  14. Is there anyone else here now / no (At that point Angie tells us he follows the present Landlord, Dez says he often feels like he is followed into the cellar).
    Things seemed to go quiet so Mark suggested they moved into the other room to try there for a while.

02.52hrs. FUNCTION ROOM. Although we set up for glass divination it never moved the whole time but other things happened. As we did not get a response but we all where aware of knocking sounds around us. Mark asked out for a loud banging or knocking sound as he did we all became aware of a musty old smell wafting around the room. Angie and Tracey could both smell Oil too. (Car oil) Dez tells us a previous owner of the pub also owned a garage near to the pub. We suddenly heard footsteps that appeared to be coming from behind Bar 2. Both Mark and Jazz who were holding the cameras where stood by the bar and could see clearly that no one was there, even though they heard the sounds too. Andy said he thought he saw a reflection of someone behind the bar. Angie said it was Rose going about her business and that Owen was still present, so we continued to try and talk to Owen. Jazz, Alan, Chris and Andy all heard someone whistle then we heard a loud bang. Mark called out "Owen if that was you could you please do it again". Then Jazz and Mark both heard a male voice go "Hmm". It appeared to come from the other Bar so we went to check it out, as we did we could all hear someone grumbling and heavy footsteps. Mark asked everyone to stay still whilst we listened for more.

03.20hrs. Mark seperated everyone into different parts to see if we could make out where exactly Owen was. Mark was by the Pool Table, Angie by the Bar 1, Alan stood inside Bar 1, Chris stood inside Bar 2, Jazz was in the Function room, Tracey stood in the Karaoke area along with Andy and Mike and Dez were in the main Bar area. For the next half hour we continued to get responses to our questions but no one was able to pinpoint where exactly the noises come from.

04.00hrs. We decided to end the investigation.

FINAL THOUGHT: This pub was great to investigate, we had a lot happen over the few hours we were there, but towards the end things went very slow.
