GRAND HOTEL SCARBOROUGH
YORKSHIRE

HOMEPAGE - INVESTIGATIONS - PHOTOS FROM LOCATION

This was a joint investigation with Ryedale Ghost Hunters, from their team was Des, Gary, Tracey, Trisha and Paul. From the AGH team were Mark, Angie, Tracey, Steph, Jazz, Ian and Andy. We met up at 22.00hrs and went inside for a look around, we were given a bedroom on the very top floor in one of the famous turrets as this room has had a spirit of a lady in red seen in it. Almost straight away we believed this to be a residual recording so left a camcorder in the room to record whilst we went to the basement and other areas we had been given, the restaurant, the ball room and the corridors.

22.00hrs: We spent the first hour getting all the equipment ready as we were about to do a full tour around the Hotel. Before we left the bedroom on the top floor Mark set up a camcorder in the bedroom as there had been reports of a lady dressed in red appearing in here several times. Then we made our way down in the lifts to the lowest levels. Which was three floors below the ground floor and what was once the original Kitchens of the hotel. The full walkabout took nearly two hours to complete and during this we had not picked anything up, other than what the psychics felt was residual. It was just before midnight when we finally had something, in one corridor one floor below the ground floor, Angie turns to Ian and asks "have you got chest pains" to which he replied "he had". Angie sensed a man nearby who had something wrong with his chest and Ian was feeling this, she also felt he either had a problem with one of his legs or he had had a leg removed, Ian said he felt a pain in one of his legs followed by a feeling it was no longer there. We then went through the door into the stairwell, which was pretty wide and the team felt the presence was still with them and more would come.

Midnight: We were still in the stairwell near to the corridor we had just been and Angie tells us that corridor, the area we are in and the corridor to the other side all feel active areas to her. Some members go back into the corridor we had left, and some into the other corridor whilst others remained in-between the two. Mark (AGH), Des and Paul (RGH) took EMF readings in the corridor they were in, each one getting strange readings. Suddenly Angie could hear a lady screaming, she also got the name Katherine or Catherine with her. Angie also got the name of a man who was around us called Edward Brown he was about 18 or 19 years old and the time era was about 1922. We stayed in the area for about half an hour before moving on, and as we were about to leave Angie could hear someone singing the nursery song Daisy Daisy, which was also popular amongst some adults. For those not familiar with the song here are some of the lyrics;

Daisy, Daisy give me your answer do.
I'm half crazy all for the love of you.
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage.
But you'll look sweet,
Upon the seat,
Of a bicycle made for two.

0.40hrs: As we made our way to the next area Angie sensed the presence of a little girl called Lucy, she was the daughter of one of the owners/managers who was playing on the stairs as we headed down to the restaurant. She made no attempt to communicate with us and was happy to continue playing where she was. We made our way into the restaurant. Des and his team headed towards the far end to see if they could gain any communication as we stayed near the entrance at first. After a few minutes of being there Angie saw what we believe was a maid walk straight passed us. She wore the traditional Victorian black dress and white pinny and made her way towards Des' team. Angie felt she was residual but still managed to sense her name as being Florence. Trish from RGH was standing with us by the entrance and Angie looked at her saying "there is a little boy with you, his name is Josh". Trish who is sensitive for RGH said "she could feel his presence, and was waiting to see if he made any communication". He did not but seemed to want to be around her. We made our way to the other end of the Restaurant to see if we could pick anything up that end of the room. As we were on our way down Ian gets the name Myers but is unsure what or who it is connected too. We were passing the serving counter when Angie could hear music being played, it sounded like it was coming from an old 1960's wireless transistor radio. The song being played was 'the young ones' by Cliff Richard and the Shadows. Trish then heard what sounded like a bell ring, the type used in a restaurant when calling for service. A few moments later Angie again hears music, this time it is Bobby Darin who is playing, others at this point all heard something but could not make out what it was. Jazz had moved nearer to the windows and Angie tells him there is a man called Harry stood by him, he is looking out of the window using binoculars, she gets nothing more with him. At 1.15hrs both team met in the middle to see what if anything each team had got. As we stood there Des, Angie and Tracey (AGH) all heard a child's giggle.

01.30hrs. We then went into the Ballroom and Des and his team tried another area. As we stood around observing both Angie and Tracey could see a Lady walking around the room, she was wearing white dress and was Residual. Then several members of the team seen a figure looking into the Hotel from the terraces. There is no way anyone could have been out there except a member of staff or a guest. We went to the window and looked through it but could see no one. Jazz picks up on an altercation that had taken place, where he could hear glass being broken and someone saying "Bloody yanks". We know American servicemen where stationed in Scarborough during the war and so this was possible. The Grand Hotel was also used by the army during the war. And many servicemen would come to hear to dance. Again the figure appeared outside the window, so we went out tot he terraces to take a look. Once we got there we could clearly see there was not a soul in sight. There was only one way out there and if it had of been a member of staff or a guest they would have had to pass us to get back in.

01.50hrs. Both teams met up again by the area near to the two corridors were we had been earlier, the two corridors and stairwell. Angie went into one of the corridors by herself as she was sensing some spirits in there, and wanted to see if she could get any communication with them. Mark and Ian went to the floor below whilst the others all remained by the staircase near to where Angie was. Angie tried to get Katherine to speak to her, but to no avail even though she was present. After several moments a gentleman entered the corridor, he was aware of Angie but made no attempt to speak to her or to respond to her. After several more moments a Lady entered and went into one of the bedrooms, Angie says she is called Heather and she is wearing a long skirt, white blouse and a hat that has flowers on it. This is someone who regularly came here on holiday. Angie is unable to get any communication going but remains seated in the corridor until 2.10hrs. Meanwhile Mark and Ian who were a level below were also aware of a presence with them. They were unable to get any communication with him, but Ian was feeling a numbness in his leg and so we believed it was the same person as earlier, At 2.10hrs we returned to the others and we all went to the main reception area.

02.10hrs We all sat and had a discussion for half an hour and then packed up the equipment and called it a night. We left at 02.40hrs.

Final thought: The Grand Hotel didn't give us any of its secrets and although it was pretty quiet most of the time it was still a very interesting place to visit.
