After five years of public Ghost Tours and discovering more people who have come through over the years we decided it would be worthwhile spending a night with just our team present in order to carry out certain experiments we cannot in front of members of the public due to too many people being present. Present from AGH were , Mark, Angie, Steph, Jazz, Chris S, Alan, Andy and Mike, we were also joined by some reserve members Ron, Leanne and Matthew.
21:50hrs . Everyone except Mark and Jazz went to the North Drift. Mark and Jazz spent a full hour setting up lots of trigger objects and voice recording equipment along with four camcorders on tripods in different areas.
The team in the North Drift: As they
entered and made their way down to the end of the tunnel, Alan was at the back
of the line and he became aware someone was walking behind him as he turned
to look, Angie also turned to look and said to Alan she felt as though there
was someone behind him, Alan confirmed this is exactly what he was feeling too.
They could not see anyone and continued to the end of the tunnel.
After about 15 minutes Angie
says little Joey is with us, or Joey Lad as we come to know him. Joey lad had
been appearing and making his presence known for just over a year now and many
guests on the tours have either sensed or seen him during this time. Joey very
rarely communicates with us and tends to just watch us from a distance as he
was on this occasion. A few moments later Andy, Mike and Peter all see a figure
move near the entrance which has been witnessed on countless occasions. Andy
and Ron went to investigate and as they approached the entrance they both saw
what appeared as a white figure shoot across from wall to the other. At the
same time at the bottom end of the tunnel everyone heard a voice that sounded
like a young teenage boy that said Hi. It was little Joey Lad. Alan had started
to follow Andy and Ron and as he was halfway up he seen a full blown figure
to his left, he was able to describe what he seen as a man roughly 5foot 8 or
5foot 9 tall, wearing a flat cap the type they used when the mine first opened,
he had on a dirty white shirt and had a scarf around his neck, his face had
long sideburns and a mustache but no beard, he did not see the mans legs as
he disappeared quickly, But Alan heard him say “Get out quick” Alan
sensed his name was Ron and he was somehow involved in a rescue operation trying
to reach an injured man and telling others to get out before they become trapped.
23:00hrs. The team where still in
the North Drift when Mark and Jazz joined them. But by this time they had all
made their way half way up the tunnel and that is where they all met.
Discussing what they had been
experiencing but before they could mention the white figure Mark saw exactly
the same going from one wall to the other and then the others told him they
had seen that too. We stayed for another hour but nothing happened and we went
for a break.
Midnight: Stopped for a break.
00:30hrs. We went into the Deputies
room, where for many years we have had some really good experiences. A spirit
in here called Matthew is the most prominent but there are others that come
in here too. Matthew always seems to be present but not always willing to work
with us. We decided to see if he would be any better tonight than the last two
tours.
We sat around the table to see if we could get any response from Matthew but
nothing, whilst we sat though we could constantly hear the voices of two spirit
boys who we have communicated with many times, Teddy and Jarvis. Whilst we could
not understand what they were saying we could make out their whispers and giggles.
Despite having a locked off camcorder in the next room it failed to pick up
any voices for us. As we tried to encourage them to come in Angie, Steph, Jazz
and Andy all heard a faint whistle. We asked was it one of the boys and then
clearly Alan, Andy, Jazz and Steph heard a “Hmm” Mark and Chris said
they heard something but where not as clear as the others as to what it was.
As we said this Chris felt a tap on the back of his head and looked a little
shocked by this.
We started to feel a move knocking sounds and some rocking movement on the table.
Shortly after Angie sensed
another two spirits enter the area by the name of Harold and Jack, who we have
never communicated with before, She gave surnames for both but due to relatives
in the village we have withheld them out of respect. Angie told us how Harold
was involved in an accident at the mine. Again we need to withhold the details
of this. (We did find that both these men did work here,
Harold did have an accident whilst working at the mine as Angie had said and
again the confirmation was made available to us). Angie describes how
she could see Harold dipping a piece of bread in his ale, he said it was to
take away the taste. Angie looked a bit bemused by this but apparently people
would do this with stale bread at one time to save wasting it.
Alan looked up and said that directly behind him he could hear what sounded
like a handful of people having a discussion! This sounded strange but as we
passed through here before the investigation started Andy had mentioned the
same thing to me and we held it from the others to see if anyone else picked
up on it. Al then sensed a man named Jim was with us, this another spirit who
has only been coming through for bout the last year. Suddenly we all heard a
loud bang from outside, Mark and Ron went outside to investigate whilst the
rest stayed in the room, a few moments later the whole team came out to see
what it was as they could still hear the loud bangs but Mark and Ron both said
whilst they were outside they heard nothing.
01:20hrs. We stopped for a toilet break.
01:35hrs. We went back to the same
room to see if we could hear anymore sounds during the break we could hear some
banging sounds that now sounded as if they where coming from inside! We sat
for a while but heard nothing. Alan could still hear the voices so Mark sat
next to him and after a few moments could hear exactly what Al did, trying to
record the sound with a voice recorder but as usual nothing appeared on the
device. Mark described it as if listening to a busy radio station. We tried
doing glass divination but not a lot happened, the Glass did not move around
or side to side but it did twist slightly several times. During which Steph
and Alan could both feel a cold breeze just under their hands, Mark who was
sat between them could not so placed his hand on the table just below their
hands one at a time and confirmed there was a breeze under both their hands
but could not feel it where he was sat.
After another few moments had passed Peter felt someone touch his hand and as
he did both Angie and Jazz could hear the boys laughter.
02:00hrs. We split into two groups,
one group in the room next to the deputies room and the other group next door
in the sound room, as we where sure the noises and laughter of the children
was coming from one of these rooms.
Angie, Leanne, Ron, Peter, Mike and Andy went to the sound room Mark, Steph,
Chris, Alan and Matt next door. Jazz stood in the doorway between both with
the camcorder. We set up two tables to try some table tipping. Jarvis soon joined
Angies team and their table started to move slightly at first some giggles could
be heard again and it was not long before little Teddy joined them. Meanwhile
in our room nothing happened. After about 30 minutes the activity stopped and
we decided to move to another area.
02:30hrs. The area that is below
what used to be the shop as the shop is now in a new area.
When we entered the room we set up the table again to see if anything happened
here, in the past we have had some good results, nothing happened on the table
for a full fifteen minutes and we where about to move on when, we all heard
very footsteps from upstairs, we went to investigate, we knew the room was empty
as it is being renovated from the shop to a new room. Whilst we where up there
we could hear movement for below us, and this pattern continued whichever room
we went in. This continued for fifteen minutes before it went away.
03:00hrs. Stopped for a break.
03:30hrs. We tried again in one of the rooms below the old shop, we got slight movements on the table and both Alan and Peter saw a figure in the corner of the room, It was sudden but startled Alan slightly as it was so quick. The table did make a few sudden jolts but not a lot else happened in this room, we where aware of a spirit called George who has been coming through for many years but he only moves the table slightly and again this was aim again tonight.
04:00hrs. We decided to call it a night and ended the investigation. We collected all the cameras we had spread out and all the trigger objects but found none had moved.
FINAL THOUGHT: This place is always
great to investigate, we had a lot happen at once and the usual spirits come
through along with some new ones we have never met before, but towards the end
things went very slow.
