History of Location

Cawthorn Camps as it is called because there are believed to have been a total of three camps on the site, two forts and a marching camp, of late 1st and early 2nd century AD. One of which is coffin shaped! the marching camp, Interestingly we have just found out when researching the area it was re-occupied by the Vikings, I say interestingly as you will see why in the report.

The Investigation Halloween 2006

Halloween 2006, we decided to go to the camp on this particular night due to the fact we came here two years ago on Halloween, and got some amazing results on camera (click here to view) Tonight we had present Angie, Mark, Wayne, Tracey and Sarah.

We arrived at the location and parked up, this type of investigation is what we class as a grade 2 investigation, an observation invest.

We have received many reports from the public of strange sightings here late at night, some of which reported to us, is that on Halloween night amazing flashing lights have been seen. The sounds of soldiers marching and the figure of a man (from present day) walking the perimeter.

We spent a few hours here walking around the camp and listening to see if we could hear the marching sounds, we did not hear anything that would resemble such thing, but being outside in the open we were subject to lots of natural sounds, like animals the wind and the rustling of the trees. Tonight we did not see any strange lights or capture anything on either the stills camera or camcorder, we did not see any figures on the perimeter,

We had walked all around the area the forts are believed to have been and upon walking back towards the car park for a drink halfway through the observations, we thought we had seen a figure in some trees, we went into the area for a closer inspection but could not see anyone however upon returning to the footpath, we did hear very clearly a mans voice shout "hello" we can say that no one else was in the area, and this cannot be accounted for.

On returning to the car Tracey and Wayne mentioned Vikings and looked at me pretty strange as to why they would be feeling that, I told them I didn't know but it was strange as Angie had mentioned Vikings on our first visit two years ago and again tonight before we left home! On researching the area after our visit, it has come to light that there is possible evidence of re-occupation by the Vikings at the camps.. I had previously refused to accept a link with Vikings in the area, but it goes to show sceptism can be a fault!

FINAL THOUGHT: An interesting night was had by all, and My (Mark) Sceptism shows a more open minded approach should be taken.
