CAPTAIN COOK MUSEUM
WHITBY

PRESENT FROM AGH WERE. MARK, ANGIE, CHRIS S, ALAN AND MIKE. ALSO PRESENT WHERE MICK THE CURATOR AND CAROLINE GOUGH REPORTER AT WHITBY GAZETTE ALONG WITH CERI OAKES PHOTOGRAPHER AT WHITBY GAZETTE.

The Investigation came about when Whitby Gazette reporter Caroline Gough was challenged by a reader to spend a night in a Haunted location. This is part of Caroline’s series of ‘Goughie Goes’. Caroline approached the Captain Cook Museum where Mick the curator was happy to let her spend the night if we at Abbey Ghost Hunters attended. We were also joined by the papers photographer Ceri Oakes.

We arrived at 10pm and spent the first hour setting up and talking to Caroline and Ceri, about what a ghost hunt involved. We set up a camera on tripod and voice recorders in different areas.

23:00hrs we then started the investigation. We went to the top floor. The Attic Room. Caroline was interested in trying Scrying as we had done this in our previous investigation there. Angie went through what was entailed and what the ladies should expect. We set up exactly as we had done on the previous visit.
Whilst Caroline attempted Scrying both Chris and Alan where drawn to one corner behind Caroline as they thought they saw something moving. Mark went to the corner to have a look. Alan described it as a shadowy image moving along the wall. Whilst checking it out the EMF meter started to get static interference through it. Upon a thorough look, there where no electrical appliances or wiring of any kind nearby that could have caused this naturally. The static interference lasted a total of seven minutes but we were unable to find any explanation for it.
After ten minutes Caroline gave up scrying and Ceri the photographer decided to have a try. But like Caroline without any success.
Angie and Alan both became aware of a boy in the room called Joshua. Alan then heard rustling in the corner, the same one as before. He went over to check it out but found nothing again.
Angie then senses a Master John who is looking for someone called Louise. She seems to have died of Typhoid.

0:25hrs. We moved down to the first floor, as we made our way down the stairs Alan turned as he heard someone walking behind him. But Alan was last in line. Mike thought he heard a voice further down the stairs and knew it was not one of us. We could not see anything on the stairs so continued further down to check out the voice.
We went into the big hall and stood in the room. The last time we where here some of the team could feel very strange sensations in one particular spot. We tried to see if the same would happen again. Mike who was not a member of the group back then, was not aware of the what happened last time. So took up position in the spot and felt the same as the others had previously.
Whilst we all stood in the room we could all hear a very strange sound but not sure what it was. It seemed to be coming from the room directly above us. So Mark and Chris went up the stairs to check it out. This room and the one above it where once a separate building and belonged to a Canon Morris. When we reached the room above the door was locked. But we stood and listened as we could hear the noise more clearly now. We where surprised to discover that the sound was that of someone snoring. More concerned there was an intruder we asked Mick the curator to unlock the door to check. When we entered the room no one could be found and the noise had now strangely gone. During this time in the room below the others heard a cat, which was experienced last time and Mick the curator had told us about the skeleton of a cat being discovered there.

01:00hrs. We stopped for a break.

01:30hrs. We continued with the investigation on the ground floor in the Blue and Green rooms. We went into the Blue room first. Angie picked up on the same things as the previous visit and Alan was also. When we were leaving the room to make our way to the Green room. Mike looked up the stairs and saw a reflection in the big window on the stairs. We went to check it out and tried to take some photos, but the camera malfunctioned several times and did not work until three battery changes. After checking the batteries all where still fully charged. We then went into the Green room.
Caroline stood in the spot where we had on our previous visit picked up on the little girl who had a white bonnet on and a dark coloured dress almost pinafore like
. Alan was stood near the door but not in front of it and had started to feel someone was behind him and got a pain in his head. On our last visit we learnt this used to be a hospital, and it may be this reason he was feeling the pain. Angie looks at Caroline and tells her the little girl is right by her, and she should watch for the following signs, pain in leg or backache. Caroline says she has had backache since we entered the room. Angie then senses a Margaret is present but unsure of her surname but she is connected to the family. Mick informs us Margaret was the name of Captain John Walker's sister. Angie continues to tell us, Margaret was hard work and a bit of a nag. But never in front of guests. Alan then got the name Albert but we are not sure who he is, Then Chris gets the name Simpson or Symonds, Alan had the name Simpson. Angie agrees the name Simpson is significant and then Mick tells us his could be Wakefiled Simpson and he was Captain John Walkers brother who owned the Whitby Bank on the same street.
We stayed in the room a little longer when Angie sees a man walk right passed us carrying a ledger, she says he was a local man and worked here when the family Merchants business was up and running.

2:30hrs. As we left the room we had more technical difficulties as the 8hr battery we had on one the camcorders completely drained, it was fully charged at the beginning of the night. Alan then heard a sigh come from the Blue room, so we went back in to check, as Angie walked passed the mirror, Alan commented on how reflection looked different and younger. (Always a good way to keep the boss happy!). We did note that this room had gone much much colder compared to the Green Room and the Hallway. (Ten celcius lower) Angie then heard a voice say something about a book but we could not understand what this meant. Apart from this room once being used as a reading room and small library.

03:00hrs. Stopped for a break.

03:30hrs. Back to the attic room where Caroline would try the scrying experiment again. Sadly nothing else happened and the whole building had become very still so we ended the night there.

04:00hrs. Investigation ended. However on the night Ceri took a photo we believe is a Spirit to see CLICK HERE. The night also appeared in Whitby Gazette newspaper. To read CLICK HERE.
